The Art of Luxury

High-End Scarves

What is beauty? Beauty roots from things that are desirable whether it’s simple or extravagant. The concept of beauty is especially strange because it’s unexpected and unusual.

For this project, we had to go through the process of analyzing high-end brands and study the practice of techniques to achieve the final creation for high-end influenced fashion products. The key point we had to focus on was to create a design that is wearable.

This scarf is inspired by the Maori legend, Paikea. In the legend, Paikea is the youngest of his family but also the favorite. His older brothers conspired to kill him, but he overheard their conversation and deliberately killed his brothers on a canoe the next day. He was also waiting for his death but a whale named Tohorā appeared and helped Paikea fish up to the northern island, Kaikoura. In this scarf, Paikea is symbolized as a seal because it is a native marine mammal to New Zealand, and the composition is inspired by the geological features of the location. This location has high mountains that drop to narrow coastal strips and during the winter, the mountains are covered in snow. In this composition, I dramatized the waves to emphasize their journey and their companionship.

This skinny scarf is inspired by the location San Juan Teotihuacán in Mexico which was once a flourishing pre-Columbian city. Also known as The Avenue of the Dead, this archeological site features the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Pyramid of the Moon and the Pyramid of the Sun which are symbolically featured in this design. This scarf is mainly inspired by the social class structure of the Aztec Empire and narrates the creation of the gods and goddesses.
